WHAT IS THE ASCENT PROGRAM?

The Concurrent Enrollment Program allows students to continue to take college-level, guarantee transfer or approved courses after the senior year has been completed. This “5th Year” program is called ASCENT, and through this program, Aurora School/Options School will pay the tuition and instructional fees portion of each student’s college bill for three (3) consecutive semesters beginning in the fall after the senior year (fall, spring, and summer semesters). Books, other fees, room and board, and transportation, etc. are not paid for through the ASCENT program.

To qualify for the Ascent Program, students must:

Have completed their senior year and be under the age of 21.
Have not graduated from high school.
Have earned a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours of guarantee transfer college credit by the end of their senior year (through Concurrent Enrollment).
Not need any remedial course work in English or Mathematics. This means the student has met the minimum scores on the ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer in reading, writing, and mathematics
Be accepted as an Ascent student at a Colorado institution of higher education that is state funded/supported (no private schools) and who participates in the Ascent Program. This would include Community Colleges, Junior Colleges, and Four-Year colleges/Universities that choose to be a part of the Ascent Program.
Be registered in the College Opportunity Fund (COF)

The Concurrent Enrollment Act requires that each school district must submit to the Colorado Department of Education a list of students who wish to participate in the ASCENT program by September 1st of the students’ senior year.
